Derby Day

UPDATE: Irish War Cry came in around 10th place. Congrats to Always Dreaming. He had a great day.

Well, it’s Derby Day at Churchill Downs. After yesterday’s disaster picks, I’m a little bummed out. BUT, today is a new day!

After the post picks on Wednesday, I’ve really had Irish War Cry #17 on my mind. No horse has won the Derby from post position #17. I’m thinking that in year 2017, #17 just might be the year!

Anyway, here’s a photo of the paddock area at Churchill Downs in June several years ago. The jockey has just mounted the horse for the race.

UPDATE 6:23PM Well, I lost again. Front runners and speed winning all day today except for the last race, the race I bet. That’s just wrong…

UPDATE 5:00PM   It’s a rainy mess at Churchill!  I’m picking #7 Farrell to win the Kentucky Oaks.  For the Exacta, #7 and #10 Miss Sky Warrior.  Good luck everyone!

This shot is of the pretty white Churchill Downs grandstand building with the paddock area to the right of the screen.

The Kentucky Oaks runs today at 6:12. For those who don’t know, this is the Derby for the girls. I hope it’s finished raining out by then.

Kentucky Derby

Are you ready for the Derby this weekend?? I’m looking forward to this Saturday, May 6th at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. I hope the weather improves for the people attending! Right now the forecast is rainy and cool. Kind of glad I’ll be watching from home this year.

June is the perfect month to visit Churchill Downs. Take a look at my Kentucky page for more photos.

Here’s a gray horse that just finished his race…. he didn’t win though.

Tom Branch Falls

If you’re looking for an easy place to be outdoors and enjoy nature and waterfalls, you need to visit the Deep Creek Area at Bryson City The hiking trails are beautiful and wide enough for walkers, runners and bikers. It’s located at the edge of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

There are three waterfalls in the park: Indian Creek Falls, Juney Whank Falls and Tom Branch Falls which I’m featuring today.

This is Tom Branch Falls in the springtime, May. The watershed is very small but still pretty. The waterfall is located on the mountainside, spilling into the creek and the creek is beside the trail.

I hope you visit Deep Creek soon, you will enjoy it!
